For ages, the spirits and elves have lived on these fells, in these forests and waters, and togerther with the Great Nature, helped the honest people of Lapland to survive in these harsh arctic conditions. Gather around with Anu Aikia, a local healer, storyteller, and shaman as she shares traditional stories of Lapland’s spirits, history and culture, and blesses you for protection and wellbeing. Her shaman drum by the fire will take you to a magical world of ancestral wisdom.

Long before snowmobiles and electric lights, people followed this same river. They came with grain to grind, with skis on their feet, with stories in their pockets. The old mill, Äkäsmylly, has stood here through it all, listening to the current of Äkäsjoki and the stories of generations. On this tour, you follow that path on snowshoes, see the old log-buildings and running water on the way. The guide will bring the stories in their pocket and food in their backpack to our Aurora ‘laavu’ – a hut with one open side, built for the perfect view to the sky.

way, we have time to appreciate the quiet of the winter forest, the crisp air, and the fresh snow under-

foot. On the way we make short breaks to take photos or enjoy a warm drink. The tour is suitable for

most fitness levels and offers a great way to explore nature.

On this guided tour, we glide peacefully through untouched pine forests on forest skis. Their wide shape carries you smoothly over soft snow, allowing you to move quietly through the landscape. The silence of forest skis brings you closer to nature. With a bit of luck, we may notice fresh tracks in the snow or even spot wildlife moving between the trees.

No previous skiing experience is required, though it is helpful. These ski’s work almost like snowshoes, main difference being that downhill parts are more effortless and more fun. Your guide will show you how these wide skis work, so you can move with confidence and ease through the winter forest. This is not about speed. It is about travelling the old way, gently and respectfully, just as the ‘väärti’s’ once did.

Step into the Arctic night on snowshoes and follow the trail into silence. The path leads through snowy forest to our brand-new Aurora Laavu, set at the highest point inside our vast reindeer fence. There, by the warmth of the fire, you can rest, sip a hot drink, and take in the wide-open view. With luck, the moment becomes unforgettable - reindeer wandering next to us and the Northern Lights dancing above, captured in a single frame. When it’s time to return, your 'väärti' will lead you safely back to the village.
